Our mission is to honor Anna Akhmatova, the great Russian poet, by encouraging the values that were important to her, through programs that promote excellence in the literary arts. We envision a world where literature is recognized as an important part of the human experience; and where authors are empowered, recognized and valued.

Connecting the World Through Books: our Center for New Literature in Translation will help to bring new writing from other countries via our fellowships; our Archival Project will document and connect the work of contemporary literary translators.

Literary Community Outside of Academia: through our Online Mentoring for Writers program we will make a space for nurturing contemporary literature outside of academic environment.

Promoting the Literary Excellence: our Akhmatova Award For Excellence in Writing will honor poets and prose writers, while our Akhmatova Fellowship for Younger Translators will help to support new generation of literary translators.
